Jalandhar: Dates not announced yet, political battles start for municipal elections

Although the dates for the impending elections for Municipal Corporation Jalandhar (MCJ) are yet to be announced by the government political battles has already started.

Although the dates for the impending elections for Municipal Corporation Jalandhar (MCJ) are yet to be announced by the government political battles has already started. In ward number 18, posters of the incumbent MLA have already been installed in streets on Saturday night on the behalf of the ‘ ward residents’ mentioning that “this councilor has made fools of us for the past 15 years… Why should we vote for him again?” And it also mentions five more reasons to boycott him.

On Sunday morning, the posters were spotted in Jalandhar’s Rishi Nagar area which falls under ward 18. The posters, carried the photo of BJP councillor Arjun Singh Puppy along with ‘5 reasons.’

The state Election Commission has recently issued a notification for preparation/ revision of electoral rolls w.e.f January1, 2017, as the qualifying date on the basis of Punjab Vidhan Sabha voter list 2017 for holding corporation elections. The elections may now take place in mid-December.

Puppy, when contacted, said he came to know about the posters in the morning and then got them removed. “I got a call from a resident of Rishi Nagar that a poster was pasted outside his house and we went there and saw it,” he said, adding that it was either done by “anti-social elements” or it could be the handiwork of the opposition party.
