A meeting between former Prime Minister and JD(S) chief H D Deve Gowda and YSR Congress president Jagan Mohan Reddy scheduled for Thursday has been cancelled following a death in the latter’s family.

Jagan has been travelling around the country for more than a month meeting non-Congress and non-BJP leaders to seek support for a united Andhra Pradesh. The effort is also to position YSR Congress Party for inclusion in a possible third front after the Parliament polls next year.

Jagan has since his release from prison met Mulayam Singh of Samajwadi Party,Sharad Pawar of NCP and Mamata Banerjee of Trinamul.

“A representative of Jagan called us a couple of days ago and sought a meeting with Deve Gowdaji to seek support for Samaikyandhra (united Andhra) but there were some issues about the timing of the meeting. The meeting was not about YSR Congress being part of a third front,’’ JD(S) sources said.

Officials from Sakshi, the media firm of Jagan, said the meeting with the JD(S) leader was cancelled because of a death in the family of the YSR Congress leader.
