Havaldar’s wife jumps before train after family dispute

They suspect a misunderstanding with husband Anish about a Kerala visit pushed her.

The 37-year-old wife of a havaldar with the Madras Engineering Group (MEG) of the Army allegedly committed suicide following a family dispute at Kallahalli in Cantonment Railway police station limits Monday night.

The police said Neetha Devi of the MEG quarters near Kallahalli and a native of Kerala was a part-time Kendriya Vidyalaya teacher. They suspect a misunderstanding with husband Anish about a Kerala visit pushed her.

The police said the couple was scheduled to travel to its hometown in Kerala on October 20 with children Athul,a class IX student at the sainik school in Madikeri,and Anamika.

Anish,however,said he might not be able to make it due to work pressure. He told his wife to travel with the children. But,the police said,Neetha argued she would not go to Kerala without Anish.

The couple fought over the issue before the havaldar left for duty. Around 9.30 pm Monday,Neetha allegedly jumped before a train on railway tracks near the MEG quarters.
