A 10-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her stepfather in Tanisandra Tuesday for spilling coconut oil.

The Hennur police, who received a complaint about the death Wednesday night, said Nooraine Taj of Nandagokula Layout was applying oil to her hair in her house at around 3 pm Tuesday when a few drops fell on the floor. Her stepfather Aslam Pasha alias Aslam,an auto-rickshaw driver, noticed this and reportedly began punching her in the stomach and chest.

The girl screamed but her sisters were too scared to help as Aslam had threatened them, the police said. Her mother Usna Sultana,a garment factory employee, had gone to work. She returned at around 6.30 pm to find Nooraine unwell.

The girl complained of severe stomach pain and revealed the beating, the police said. Sultana called her brothers and rushed Nooraine to Ambedkar Hospital in KG Halli where she was declared dead on arrival.

The police have registered a case of murder against Aslam.

Sultana and Aslam married three years ago. It was a second marriage for both, the police said. Sultana had three children from her first marriage and the couple had a son. All were staying in the house of Aslam, the police said.
