3 cops face probe for pocketing stolen property

A sub-inspector and two constables attached to the Siddapura police station allegedly pocketed property,including 1.5 kg of gold,recovered from a gang of burglars. The matter came to light Thursday when a city police team led by the assistant commissioner of police (ACP) of Mico Layout arrested two persons in connection with a burglary.

The team learned the burglars would stash stolen property in a house belonging to Andhra native Kavitha in Devasandra. When the team went there it was shocked to learn another police team had taken away all the stolen property a week ago and not entered the recovery in records.

Sources said investigation revealed sub-inspector Vijay and constables Rasool and Yogish misused the property.

The matter was reported to seniors,including police commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar,who ordered a probe by the central crime branch (CCB). “I came to know of the incident Thursday evening and directed the CCB to conduct a detailed inquiry. Action will follow,” Auradkar said.

Sources said the accused visited the house of Kavitha in a Maruti van. They told her they were attached to the Devagiri police station and fled with nearly 1.5 kg of gold ornaments,mobiles and Rs 1 lakh. They also allegedly attacked Kavitha,who has a 3-month-old child.
