A woman who had complained that her neighbours thrashed her over a dispute of sharing water from a community tap,was arrested on Monday as she tried to immolate herself outside the office of Deputy Commissioner of police (DCP) alleging that no action was taken against her neighbours.
The woman identified as Ritu,32,of Khadak Mangolia area,was booked for attempt to suicide under section 309 of the IPC and was arrested after she tried to create a scence outside the DCP office in Sector 1.
The woman had poured herself with kerosene oil and tried to lit herself up when police foiled her bid to commit suicide this afternoon.
Commissioner of police,Panchkula-Ambala,range,Rajbir Deswal,said,We found that Ritus was brazen case of arm-twisting following which we registered the case. He said that the even as a case was registered against Ritu,we acted on her complaint and had made arrests.
Police had earlier furnished bail bonds to seven women including Ritu and one Baby under Section 107 and 150 of the CrPC. Police said,initially the fight was between Ritu and Baby then it agrevated and other women and male members of the two families got involved.
Police said a petty issue of water sharing triggered the squabble. SHO of Sector 5 police station,Mukesh Sharma,said that they have arrested the woman and six other male members of Babys family including her son for intimidating her. Investigations revealed that the row also involved payment of debt that ran into few thousands between the families, he said.
