THE CITY has been turned into a fortress ahead of French President Francois Hollande’s visit on Sunday, with the security personnel being deployed at all the vital installations.

Around 5,000 security personnel from Punjab, Haryana and Himachal police and ITBP will be deployed apart from the Border Security Force (BSF) which arrived in the city on Friday. The French security personnel also took stock of all the places where President Hollande will visit.

A rehearsal was held from the airport by the security agencies and the local police. Sources in the police said that this time people would face minimum inconvenience and the traffic would be stopped for only a few minutes when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Hollande would pas through the city.
“We conducted the dry run on Friday. We did not stop traffic as it was running parallel. The idea was not to disrupt the traffic during the visit,” said a police official.

He said that around 5,000 security personnel would be deputed in the city during the French President’s visit and the police forces from Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh had already arrived along with a BSF team.

He added that the French security team, which was in the city and overlooking the security arrangements, also visited all the places where the President would visit.

The police will issue a statement on Saturday about traffic diversions and the points where the traffic will be stopped during the visit.
