With Independence Day coming up,Chandigarh police conducted a search operation in Dadu Majra and Mauli Jagran early on Tuesday. 22 persons from Dadu Majra and 46 persons from Mauli Jagran were detained for verification in the operation carried out between 4 am to 7 am.

Search operations were also carried out various malls,Panjab University,PGI,GMCH-32,ISBT-17,ISBT-43,district courts and crowded markets of Sector 17,22,35 and 26 on Tuesday evening.

The police checked for explosives with EVD (Explosive vapor detector),NLGD (Non-linear ground detector),DSMD (Deep search metal detector) and sniffer dogs.

Earlier on Monday,47 persons from Bapu Dham had been detained for verification. The police had inspected all licensed weapons and verified the antecedent of local weapon holders.

Also,a check had been conducted on hotels,guest houses,restaurants,PGs,hostels,Sarai and Dharamshallas from 9 pm to 11 pm,and the antecedents of the persons staying there were verified.

Nakas to check drink-driving were deployed in the at 8 locations. A total of 66 challans were issued,including 35 for drink driving and 31 for other traffic violations.
