‘Will fulfil promise of making Punjab power surplus in 2013’

Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday claimed he will be able to fulfil his government’s promise of making Punjab power surplus in 2013.

Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday claimed he will be able to fulfil his government’s promise of making Punjab power surplus in 2013.

While inspecting the progress of construction of three major plants at Talwandi Sabo,Goindwal Sahib and Rapura,Sukhbir fixed the inaugural dates of all the three thermal plants for 2013.

While Talwandi Sabo Power Limited will inaugurate its first unit on Baisakhi,2013,second unit in August and third unit in December,Goindwal Thermal Plant’s first unit will be inaugurated in March 2013 and second unit in May. Similarly,the first unit of Rajpura Thermal Plant — being constructed by L&T — will be inaugurated on December 15,2013 and second unit on Baisakhi,2014.

Sukhbir added that Punjab will be the first state in country to add 3,920 MW with combined cost of Rs 22,000 crore in a single year.

Earlier,Sukhbir reached Rajpura Thermal Plant site in the evening to personally monitor the progress of the 1,400-MW plant being constructed at a cost of Rs 8,000 crore.

Opinder Singh,CEO of the plant,told Sukkbir that 62.77 per cent of the plant has been completed and work on railway lining is in advanced stages of completion. The Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited will erect 400 KV Rajpura-Nakodar,400 KV Kanodar-Dhuri,400 KV Rajpura-Dhuri Transmission lines for evacuation of power and the plant will be functional by the end of November 15,2013,he added.

Later,while addressing mediapersons,Sukhbir said: “I don’t enter into an argument with my critics but I prove myself by fulfilling my promises on schedule.”
