The Chandimandir Western Command held a weapon and equipment display for schoolchildren at the Sector 34 exhibition ground on Friday. The display was for a single day and children from different government and private schools attended the exhibition.
Equipment from tanks to rifles were on display with the children being allowed to step inside the tanks and observe how they worked.
The whole aim behind the event,the western command officers said,was to present thee weapons and equipments to students to encourage them to join the Indian Army. We have seen children taking interest in tanks majorly,this would motivate them to fight for their nation, said one of the commanders.
Such a display by Western Command has happened for the first time in the city. The event clearly left an impression the students and there was visible excitement all around. We saw these tanks and weapons in movies,but to see them in reality was a great honour. I feel proud to be an Indian and I would join the Indian Army when I grow up, said Abhishek,a student of class 9 at the Government Model Senior Secondary School in Sector 23. Another student Rahul from the same grade and school said: If it were in my hands I would have gone along with these commanders only to serve the nation.
