Formidable West Bengal and Tripura played a goalless draw and shared points in their cluster VI match in the Ninth Junior National Girls Under-19 Football Tournament being organised by the Chandigarh Football Association at the Punjab Engineering College grounds on Sunday.

Both teams had a couple of opportunities to score but their forwards were wayward in their shooting. West Bengal enjoyed a slight upper hand.

However, the Tripura defence with their quick clearances denied West Bengal a close look at their goal. Bengal and Tripura have played two matches each and have four points apiece from one draw and one victory each. Qualifiers from this cluster will be decided on July 20 when Bengal face Punjab (one win,one defeat) and Tripura meet Rajasthan (two defeats).

The all-important goal was scored by Sandeep Kaur who converted a spot kick in the 68th minute. In a defence-dominated game,Punjab were awarded a penalty when Rajasthan defender Heeral pushed Punjab striker Rajvir Kaur who was in the process of shooting at the goal.
