The UT Administration may soon add Volvo buses in its existing fleet of CTU buses on local routes. A presentation was given to the UT Home Secretary-cum-Secretary of Transport recently by the Volvo officials.

According to sources, the UT Administration has already sought funds under the JNNURM scheme for adding buses to run on local routes within the city. Presently, the average cost of a CTU bus is around Rs 60-62 lakh but the ones proposed by Volvo will cost nearly Rs 80-82 lakh. Volvo buses are already being run on local routes in Bengaluru.

Speaking to Chandigarh Newsline,UT Home Secretary-cum-Secretary of Transport,Anil Kumar said,“It is too pre-mature to say anything on this matter as lot of things have to be assessed in this regard. The cost factor being the most pertinent. We have to see the availability of funds with us to buy such expensive buses and the distances in the city are also to be kept in mind,” he added.
