A sedate century by Veer Karan Goyal helped visitors Chandigarh to be still in the hunt against hosts Ludhiana on the third day of their match of the Punjab State Inter-District U-22 Cricket Tournament being played at PAU grounds,Ludhiana. After Ludhiana posted a mammoth total of 442 runs in their first innings,Chandigarh finished the third day at 347 for 6 in 154 overs,still trailing Ludhiana by 95 runs in the first innings. Goyal,who was unbeaten on 55 at the start of the day,was the main stay of the Chandigarh innings on Friday. The youngster shared an unbroken 102-run stand for the seventh wicket with Abhilash Sharma to drive Chandigarh towards the Ludhiana total. Goyal smashed 14 boundaries during his 451-ball knock while Sharma remained unbeaten on 68 runs. For Ludhiana,Amrit Pal claimed two wickets for 40 runs.

Satyawan,Harry help Jalandhar gain lead

A 54-run partnership for the seventh wicket between Himanshu Satyawan and Harry guided hosts Jalandhar to gain a vital two-run lead in the first innings over Patiala in a match played at Burlton Park,Jalandhar. After restricting Patiala to a first innings’ total of 349,Jalandhar posted a total of 351 in their first innings,thereby gaining a two-run lead. Himanshu Satyawan played a crucial knock of 119 runs for the hosts team while Harry contributed 17 runs. For Patiala,Amrinder Singh claimed five wickets for 143 runs while Beant Singh claimed two wickets for 50 runs. At the end of the day’s play,Patiala were 277 for 3 in 66 overs. Jeevanjot Singh played a fine unbeaten knock of 133 runs while Karan Kaila was unbeaten on 54 runs.

A fine display by their bowlers helped Amritsar to gain the upper hand against Mohali in another match played on Friday. After gaining a lead of 162 runs over Mohali,Amritsar restricted Mohali to 227 for 5 in their second innings. Resuming at their overnight score of 356 for 8,Amritsar posted a total of 393 in their first innings. At the end of the day’s play,Mohali were 227 for 5 in 83 overs,ahead by 65 runs from Amritsar.
