UT concedes condition of night food street ‘poor’

The UT administration on Friday conceded that there is much to be desired at the night food street. Expressing shock over the deteriorating condition of the night food street,opposite PGI,and pointing out that adulterated food was being served,the Punjab and Haryana High Court has summoned the Commissioner,Municipal Corporation.

The Commissioner has been asked to appear next week before the High Court. A division bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ajay Tewari observed that the food being provided at the Night food street is almost poisonous. “This is poisoning. Unfortunately those eat here are those who cannot eat anywhere else,” the Bench orally remarked.

The Bench has asked the Commissioner,Municipal Corporation to appear before the High Court to explain what steps are being taken to ensure that no adulterated food is supplied at the Night food street. The development took place during the resumed hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) arising of a suo motu notice taken on a news item appearing in an English daily.
