The UT Education Department has asked for information from city-based private schools regarding the admissions of EWS students.

The department has asked the schools to provide details regarding the number of EWS students admitted after the department had moved EWS applications to the schools and the number of seats lying vacant.

Talking to Newsline,District Education Officer (DEO) Ram Kumar said that they have asked for details regarding the admission of EWS students and number of seats lying vacant. “We have also asked the schools not to convert the seats into general category unless and until the department ask them to do so,” he added.

Moreover,a delegation of NSUI led by Sunny Mehta met the Education Secretary,DPI and the DEO on Wednesday and apprised them of the latest High Court order whereby the definition of ‘neighbourhood’ has been asked.

Since it was the last day for the admissions of students under the EWS category and the corresponding failure of the private schools to admit the students as per the RTE,the NSUI has also asked the Administration to invite fresh applications from the EWS students for filling up the vacant seats.
