Taking note of Chandigarh’s budding sports talent,Chandigarh Education Department felicitated school children on Wednesday for securing top positions in the inter-school competitions organised in the session 2012-2013. The sportspersons were handed over prizes by Adviser to the Administrator,KK Sharma,who was the chief guest on the oaccasion.

Stressing the importance of sports in daily lives,Sharma advised the students to make sports as way of life.He further stated that as many as 13000 boys and 7000 girls from all the schools,both private and government participated in 43 sports disciplines in the inter-school tournaments in the session 2012-13. He also said that the UT Administration is drafting new policies to promote sports in Chandigarh. Also,VK Singh,Finance-cum-Education Secretary explained that a joint initiative by the UT Administration and the CLTA has been instrumental in the introduction of tennis coaching program in four government schools. Along with it,the UT Administration plans to have new basketball,volleyball courts and also other sports avenues.
