A 24-year-old,facing trial on charges of dacoity,was attacked with sharp-edged weapons on Monday night by unknown youths near transport light point,Sector 26. Dharanjeet alias Monu,a resident of Bapudham,was attacked when he was returning to his house at around 11:30 pm.

Condition of Dharanjeet,who is being treated at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research,is stated to be critical. According to the police,Dharanjeet has suffered grievous injuries and is unconscious. The victim was released from Burail Jail around a fortnight ago.

Assistant Sub Inspector Balbir Singh of Sector-26 Police Post said Dharanjeet was unconscious and unfit to make a statement. “We will be able to register an FIR and find out the reason of the attack only after Dharanjeet’s condition is stable,” the ASI said. A DDR has been lodged by the police.
