Two incidents of snatching were reported near bus stops on Tuesday,in which women were robbed of their gold jewellery.
In the first incident,a resident of Panchkula Sector 19 alleged that two women robbed her of a gold bangle as she was trying to board a bus near PGIMER. Kamla Devi had come to visit her relative at the hospital and was returning to Panchkula at the time of the incident.
When Devi tried to get inside the CTU bus,two women tried to board with her and restricted her entry by pushing her, said police. Finally,Devi got inside the bus while the two women stayed behind. Later,Devi discovered that one of her gold bangles was missing.
Police suspect organised crime. The modus operandi is that a group of women target a lone woman waiting for a bus and they surround her when she tries to board. They push and shove the woman to distract her and rob her of her jewellery. A year ago,a gang of three women were arrested for the crime in the area but no such cases have been reported since, said Sub-Inspector Ramesh Kumar, the investigating officer.
A case of theft was registered at Sector 11 police station.
Raj Grover,a 59-year-old woman, had taken her grandson to the bus stop when her gold chain was snatched by two men. Around 9 am,she came to the bus stop in Sector 44-A to help her grandson board the bus to school when two men approached them from behind.
One of the boys came on foot and snatched the gold chain that the woman was wearing around her neck. Another was following him on a motorcycle and the two fled on the vehicle after the incident, said the investigating officer. The woman is a resident of Sector 44. A case has been registered in Sector 34 police station.
