A local court on Friday sentenced Kashmeera Singh to five years imprisonment for kidnapping a 10-month-old child two years ago. The court also sentenced Ravi to three years imprisonment for extortion. Five others were acquitted in the case.

In the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Bhawana Jain,Kashmeera Singh was found guilty under Section 365 of the IPC,while Ravi was held guilty under Section 387 of the IPC.

On November 28,2011,Pinjore residents Anil and Sarita had gone to visit Mansa Devi temple with their 10-month-old son Nishant. When her husband went to make a call,Sarita waited with Nishant. There she befriended Aarti and Kashmeera. On feeling thirsty, she asked the duo to take care of Nishant till she returned. On returning, she found the couple missing with the child. Initially,a missing case was registered. But when Sarita’s brother received a call of Rs 10 lakh, the case was changed to kidnapping. While police nabbed two youths who made the phone call,it turned out they had not kidnapped the child.

Police located Kashmeera and Aarti in February 2012. Kashmeera said the child was sold for Rs 70,000 to one Jaspal. Nishant was then rescued and handed over to his parents.
