Two held for tanker driver’s murder

The Ropar police solved the murder case of an oil tanker driver and arrested two persons on Friday.

The body of Mast Ram,a resident of Swarghat in Himachal Pradesh,and driver of an oil tanker (HP 53A-5556) belonging to one Krishna HP Centre Petrol Pump,Baijnath (HP) was recovered from the tool box of the vehicle on March 1,from near Sainik Rest House.

Ropar Senior Superintendent of Police L K Yadav,said a special team led by Ropar ASP Dhanpreet Kaur investigated the matter and arrested one Ravinder Singh alias Gappu,a resident of Sapori village in Una and one Balbir Singh. Kaur said Ravinder,who was a friend of the deceased,boarded the tanker near Bharatgarh in Ropar. Both of them consumed liquor together,after which,Ravinder killed Mast Ram. He then took the tanker to Nehrian in Una and sold the diesel.

Later,he took the tanker to Ropar and abandoned it near Sainik Rest House. The police have booked Ravinder under Section 411 of the Indian Penal Code. They have also recovered 10,000 litres of diesel from Balbir. Both have been sent in police remand till March 15.
