TWO PERSONS were sentenced to jail for six years on Wednesday for robbing a man of Rs 250 and a cell phone at knifepoint.

The robbers, namely Kamal Chhetri (20) and Ranjit Chauhan (26), residents of a labour colony, were given the sentence by the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Ashwani Kumar under Section 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of IPC.

According to police, the two were held following a robbery on November 11, 2016. The complainant, Prashant Sood, a resident of Baltana, told police that when he was crossing the Centra Mall around 11.20 pm, three youths pulled him into a place behind trees. The miscreants then thrashed him when he refused to hand over his belongings. One of them took out Rs 250 from Sood’s pocket, his mobile phone and photocopy of his ID card at knifepoint.

The trio then ran away while Sood ran towards the Centra Mall and called the PCR from someone else’s phone. After the PCR arrived, he narrated the incident. The accused were arrested within half an hour from near the Sukhna lightpoint when they were coming out from behind the trees. Police caught two of the accused while the third managed to flee.

Sood identified Chhetri and Chauhan. The cellphone and ID card were also recovered from them.
