A local court,on Tuesday,sentenced two persons to 10-years rigorous imprisonment holding them guilty of possessing narcotics.

The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge,Preeti Sahni announced the sentence,while slapping a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the duo,pronounced guilty under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act.

Lakhwinder Singh,a resident of Sangrur,Punjab and Harpal Singh,a resident of Sri Ganganagar,Punjab,were arrested by the Chandigarh Police from Sector 31 on October 12,2009 when they were coming to Chandigarh in a vehicle.

The guilty,found with 100 kilograms of poppy husk,have been convicted under Section 15 (punishment for contravention in relation to poppy straw) of the NDPS Act.
