Two arrested for posing as gangsters,demanding ransom

The Mohali Police on Friday arrested two people for allegedly posing as gangsters and making ransom calls to various Tricity residents.

The Mohali Police on Friday arrested two people for allegedly posing as gangsters and making ransom calls to various Tricity residents. The two have been identified as Rajesh Kumar(22) and Satish Kumar(30) – both residents of Sector 19,Panchkula. According to police,the duo were nabbed by the CIA staff after a tip off was received.

On Wednesday,the duo had allegedly called up R K Jaiswal,director of the cardiology department at Fortis Hospital,Mohali,and demanded Rs 10 lakh protection money from him. Police said the two threatened to eliminate Jaiswal’s family if the doctor failed to pay the money. Police had registered a case at the Zirakpur Police station against the accused. The duo also have a case registered against them at the Chandigarh Sector 19 Police station. During investigation,the two were arrested from Harmilap Nagar in Baltana,where they were waiting to collect ransom money from another person.

Addressing the media on Friday,Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police(SSP),GS Bhullar,said: “During the initial interrogation of the accused,it has come to our notice that the accused were working at Derabassi with Abhijit Group of Insurance. Satish is a partner in the insurance company.” He added that the modus operandi of the two was scrutinising the insurance data of their ‘victims’ and then making ransom calls.
