Trying to flee,snatcher dies in road accident

A man was killed on Wednesday in a road accident while he trying to make good his escape after stealing a scooter and snatching a purse.

A man was killed on Wednesday in a road accident while he trying to make good his escape after stealing a scooter and snatching a purse.

Rajiv Kumar was declared dead on arrival by doctors at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16. His stolen scooter skidded off the road in Sector 38 (West).

The incident took place at about 4.30 pm. As per police,Rajiv had first stolen a scooter from Sector 41 and then snatched a woman’s purse in Sector 35.

The woman raised an alarm and onlookers started chasing the snatcher. A PCR vehicle soon followed Rajiv.

Surjit Singh Malik,Deputy Superintendent of Police (South) said,“Rajiv noticed the PCR car and in order to escape skidded his two-wheeler and suffered head injuries”.

Rajiv’s body has been kept in GMSH-16 mortuary and the postmortem will be conducted on Thursday.
