The city is likely to see its first multilevel parking lot in Sector 17 after years of waiting.

*The city is likely to see its first multilevel parking lot in Sector 17 after years of waiting. Work would start once its design gets approval.

*The overbridge in Sector 17 would be ready in this year. The ceremony for initiation of work has already taken place.

*The Master Plan being prepared for the development of the city would be completed. This would outline the shape the city would take in the coming years.

The Night Food Street in Sector 48 would be completed providing residents of southern sectors with a facility which was missing till now.

*International flights are likely to start from the city this year providing the residents a direct connection to foreign shores.

Panjab University

*Vice-Chancellor : In the year 2012,Panjab University the term of existing Vice Chancellor R C Sobti is getting over. While speculations of his third term are already rife on the campus,names of competent successors are also doing the rounds.

*With debates at length and proposals in abundance that failed to take off,it will be worth noticing how the authorities are able to find a solution for vehicle chaos on the campus.

*Pending construction Projects: Especially hostels are one of the eagerly awaited projects by candidates who are still in the waiting list or sharing a hostel room with two or even three other residents.

*Faculty crunch: Almost all the departments with faculty crunch are hoping to see the problem resolved with some recruitments already done and others still going on.

*Disputes: In the year 2012,faculty,students and staff of DAV College,Sector 10 are hoping that the ongoing dispute for poistion of principal gets resolved for the benefit of the college itself.


*Advanced Neuro Sciences : PGI is to come up with an Advanced Centre in Neuro Sciences

*Interlinking : Interlinking of the two Government Hospitals,GMCH 32 and GMSH 16 along with the Community Health Centre ,Sector 22 and Government Hospital,Manimajra wherein the patients would be given common CR numbers and a database of patients would be made for their convenience.

*Heart transplant : PGI to start heart transplant program.

*Branch therapy : GMCH 32 to start Brachy therapy- for cancer patients.

*Surgeries in eye : GMCH 32 to introduce Laproscopy surgeries in eye department.


*Safe City Project: The ambitious plan of the Chandigarh Police to connect the whole city with a network of Close Circuit Cameras which would be used to maintain surveillance and maintain law and order in the city. The project which is being planned in phase will see a single control room being established for the police.

*Construction of a Finger Print Bureau: T he construction of the Finger print Bureau of the Chandigarh Police will help the police to maintain a database of criminals and speed up investigation process.

*Mobile police station: To bring the police closer to the people especially those living in colonies and the periphery,mobile police stations with all basic facilities of a police station will be made available.

*Netra: UT police force will become the first police force in the country to acquire an unmanned aerial vehicle,Netra.

*More teeth to PCA : It will be interesting to see how many recommendations against the police personnel are recommended by the Police Complaints Authority (PCA) and the reaction and action of the Police with regard these orders.


*Accredition : WHO’s School health programme will be accrediting the schools in the city as Health Promoting Schools. The accredition will be done on the basis of school’s progress in areas of immunisation,nutrition,physical activity and sanitation,alongwith the level of medical awareness in students.

*First smart school : Region’s first goverment smart school to come up in city in Sector 53. Entire school campus will be Wi-Fi enabled and classroom teaching will be taken up by referring to the e-content (e-lessons) on the projector screens in all classrooms.

*Two new senior secondary schools : Two new senior secondary schools will be set up in Sector 50 and 54. The schools will be expected to relocate students from neighbouring schools including Government Model High School,Sector 41,Badheri,Kajheri to balance the pupil-teacher ratio.

*Government schools to become tech savvy : The government schools in the city will become “tech-savvy” in the coming academic session with all the school records,right from staff and student attendance to examination results,being managed online via Management Information System (MIS).

*Admission from less priviliged : Entry class admission season in all private schools in January will see the schools admitting children from underprivileged backgrounds under Right To Education Act,2009.


*Mohali Bus stand : Being built over 6.6 acres of land,the first AC bus stand in the country is expected to be completed this year. The bus stand will have a hotel,office-cum-commercial tower and helipad on rooftop,10-screen multiplex and a mega departmental store.

*Largest Mall in the World : The year could see work being done on the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) ambitious plan to set up the world’s largest mall (5.7 million square feet) in Sector 62 in an area of 76 acres. The Authority has conceptualised the mall is likely to have 1,400 units of office and commercial space. Almost 2,00,000 square feet of area has been kept aside for an amusement park.

*Medicity project: Another big project of the GMADA,a super-speciality hospital care hub Medicity coming up in Mullanpur,is also likely to be launched.

ISB: The Indian School of Business (ISB) new campus will start operations and welcome it’s first batch in 2012.

*Administrative Complex : Administrative complex to come up in Sector 76. All the district and civil administration offices are likely to be relocated to the new complex.


*Pinjore-Parwanoo bypass: The much awaited 10 km four-lane bypass road from Pinjore to Parwanoo will be thrown open in 2012,bringing cheers to the residents Himachal Pradesh and motorists of Pinjore,Kalka and Parwanoo.

*CCTV surveillance Project: To increase electronic surveillance,Panchkula police will be installing 90 Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras and Automatic Number Plate Readers (ANPR) in the district in 2012.

The Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems: The Union governments’s flagship project will be in place in Panchkula by 2012 on a pilot basis. After CCTNS,complaints could be registered with the police by the residents through e-mail and SMS.

*Ashiana Scheme: The Haryana government is to hand over possession of nearly 7,000 residential flats to Panchkula slum-dwellers in 2012,in a bid to rid the city of slums.
