Young trainees at Shri Shri Cricket Academy at DC Model School Sector 7,Panchkula,attended an enriching coaching session undertaken by former cricketers,Girish Bhanot and Ajay Sikka on Saturday.
Bunch of trainees which included both girls and boys were taught various cricket skills during the three-hour long session. Players falling in the Under-10,Under-12 and Under-14 age category were exposed to taking correct stance, making apt shot selection, how to grip the ball while bowling different variations and fielding skills.
Speaking about the tips they were given, trainee Abhishek Sharma said,The session was quite useful as we learnt different things about the game. Another trainee Gurdeep Singh felt,There were some flaws in my stance but I have been taught how to take correct stance now and I will keep working on that now. Girish Bhanot, chief coach at Strawberry Fields World School,Sector 26,Chandigarh,said,Todays generation of budding cricketers are exposed to cricket a lot more than we were. They watch the game on TV,play and also read about it. So,in a way they are already quite smart but at the same time it is very important for them to indulge in match practice and keep working on new concepts with their coaches. Their cricket basics and skills should be regularly brushed-up. Ajay Sikka, another former cricketer and also newly appointed Joint Director (Operation) at the Academy, quipped,The idea behind conducting such coaching session was to break the trainees practice routine and organize an interactive as well as motivating session wherein they could be taught some new nuances about the game. We aim to keep conducting such sessions in future too. Budding youngsters of the academy named Surya Kanojia,Saksham,Sagar Sharma and Ayush Sikka also attended the session.
