In view of the rising number of issues regarding colleges,Panjab University (PU) has decided to call a special session of the Syndicate on August 9.
As students celebrate the gazetted holiday,the Syndicate members will sit down to deliberate on various issues which include the issue of colleges flouting Panjab University norms by charging exceptionally high fees from students in certain courses in the current academic session. GGDSD College,Sector 32,was one such college,whose case was mentioned in the Syndicate meeting earlier this Saturday.
The college was found to be charging a higher fee for certain courses. Another issue which forms part of the agenda is the increase in the salary of the officials in the university and the colleges. A few other issues will also be discussed.
The Syndicate meeting was held earlier this Saturday when major decisions regarding increasing the number of seats in certain courses in its affiliated colleges,setting up of community colleges,acceptance of the proposed hostel fee hike and fine amount were taken.
The meeting,which was presided over by the PUVice-Chancellor Professor Arun Kumar Grover and lasted for more than eight hours.
Around 57 agenda items were reportedly discussed during the meeting. It was then later decided in the meeting that a special session would be called again to discuss other important issues raised during the meeting in order to have close look on the issues.
