The All India Trinamool Congress workers on Monday staged a protest march against the Centre’s recent decision of hiking cooking gas and diesel prices and allowing Foreign Direction Investment (FDI) in retail sector.

The AITMC leaders and workers from the region headed by party’s northern region incharge K D Singh gathered at the Sector 25 rally ground. Addressing the rally,Singh said that by hiking the cooking gas and diesel prices, the Centre had put an additional burden on the common man who was already reeling under inflation. Such kind of injustice to the common man would not be tolerated at any cost.

He also slammed the Centre for allowing FDI in retail sector saying that the move would ruin the small traders and shopkeepers representing a large section of Indian society.

The party workers started marching towards Matka chowk by raising slogans against the Centre. They were stopped by the police near Sector 23.

Later, addressing the media at the party’s northern region headquarters in Sector 26,Singh said that any tough decision to withdraw support to the Congress-led UPA government could be taken at the party’s Parliamentary Committee meeting on September 18 in Kolkata. Any leader involved in the coal scam should resign from the post,he added.

On the next Assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh,he said the TMC would not enter into alliance with any other party.
