The Panchkula Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Tuesday decided to impose fine of Rs 500 to 1,000 on throwing of garbage and construction material on the roads.
At its first meeting on Tuesday,the corporation also approved a fine of Rs 5,00 to 1,000 on the wastage of water. The PMC decided that for the first offence,a fine of Rs 500 would be imposed on offenders while for the second offence,a fine of Rs 1,000 would be imposed.
The newly elected corporators pointed out in the meeting,which was presided over by Mayor Upinder Ahluwalia,that the sanitation staff deployed in the wards had not been doing its duty properly. The corporation has employed more than 600 safai karamcharies in Panchkula city.
The elected members also asked the corporation that it should set up warning signboards at different spots in the city,asking people not to throw waste on the roads. Executive Officer of Panchkula Municipal Corporation O P Sihag stressed the need for imposing fine to check the wastage of water. We need to take measures to check the wastage of water; it is very important as the wastage is rampant in the city, he said.
