Tennis tourney from September 23

Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) will organise CLTA-AITA Chandigarh Open-1 Lakh tennis tournament (men and women) from September 23 to 27at the CLTA Stadium in Sector 10.

CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) will organise CLTA-AITA Chandigarh Open-1 Lakh tennis tournament (men and women) from September 23 to 27at the CLTA Stadium in Sector 10. The qualifying matches for the tournament will be played on September 21 and 22. Players from different states of India will take part in the tournament. The response for the tournament was positive as a total of 250 players have signed-in for the qualifying event. A total of 222 men and 28 women players have confirmed their entries. Meanwhile,wild card for the main draw has been given to the following players:

Men’s: Ranjeet Singh (CLTA),Raghav Talwar (CLTA),Shashank Nautiyal (AITA),Anvit Bendre (AITA); Women: Gayatri Kumaraiah (CLTA),Charvi Saxena (CLTA),Abhilasha Ahuja (AITA),Saumya Vij (AITA).

Sanam,Vijayant lose in Canada

CHANDIGARH: Former Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) trainee Sanam Singh made an exit from the $ 15,000 ITF Men’s Futures Tennis Tournament in Toronto (Canada) on Friday. The third-seed Indian was beaten by Canadian Milan Pokrajac 6-2 6-1 in the second round singles match as a result of which the Indian challenge in the tournament also came to an end. Another former CLTA trainee Vijayant Malik,who was seeded fourth in the tournament,had earlier lost to George Jecminek of Canada 6-1,7-6(3). Vijayant has been dogged by injuries in recent times.

Chess meet on anvil

CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh Chess Association will organise the 24th Chandigarh Chess Championship from September 26 to 29 at St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School,Sector 44. The top four players will be selected to represent Chandigarh in the forthcoming National Challenger Chess Championship to be held at Bhopal from October 12 to 22. The last date for entry is September 25. The reporting time for the first round is 9 am on September 26.

Hockey C’ship from tomorrow

CHANDIGARH: The Rock Rovers Hockey Club will organise the SN Vohra’s All India Gurmit Memorial Hockey Championship from September 22. The tournament has attracted as many as 18 teams from all over the country,who will compete in the eight-day long championship.

U-14 cricket tourney from Sept 27

PANCHKULA: Satluj Public School,Sector 4,Panchkula is going to organise U-14 inter-school Satluj Champions League Cricket Tournament from September 27 at the school ground.

Players born on or after 01-01-2000 can participate in the tournament. Last date of sending entry is September 22. Boxing meets from today

CHANDIGARH: The 37th senior men and 5th sub-junior women Chandigarh State Boxing Championships will be held on September 21 and 22 at PML SD Public School,Sector 32 ,Chandigarh. In the senior section,the Chandigarh men boxing team will be selected for the North Zone and National Championships. Also,sub junior women team will be selected for the sub-junior nationals during the competition. The weighing-in will be held at the venue on September 21 at 8 am.
