The Joint Action Committee of Teachers (UT) protestenters its third day against the DPI(S) on Monday at Sector 20. More than 100 teachers from government schools participated in the protest to press the Chandigarh Administration to withdraw suspension and cancel the FIR filed against four teachers.

A massive demonstration was held by all the teachers who came to express solidarity with the suspended teachers and also with the teachers who were issued show cause notices for not delivering the lecture under faculty development programme of the department.

Many teachers observed the chalk down strike in their respective schools. The leaders clarified that the teachers are not against the faculty development programme but are in the favour of postponing the same for some time and changing it from retesting of teachers to lecture discussion, which will be more helpful for quality education. Co-convener Swarn Singh Kamboj said,“We will continue to protest till our suspension is not rolled back. We will not let the next lectures take place which are supposed to be in GMSSS-10 and GMSSS-16 on July 27.”

Meanwhile, many other organisations including Chandigarh Transport Unit (CTU) supported the demonstration, criticizing the action taken by the Education Department. Joint Action Committee of Teachers appealed to the teachers to reach in large number near Shivalik View,Sector 17 at 3.30 pm on July 23 to make the protest successful.
