Thanks to the simmering heat,membership for swimming pools are much in demand this season. Of course taking a dip in the swimming pool is the best option to seek relief from the heat of the scorching sun. a survey of Chandigarh and Panchkula swimming pools reveals following facts.
Chandigarh Golf Club,Sector 6
Unlike other swimming pools there is not much rush here during summer vacations,as it can only exclusively be used by club members. Its an all weather pool constructed for the elite class of the society. Water temperature is maintained at around 29 degree celsius in winters with the help of solar panel said Sukhwinder Singh,operator.
Press Club,Sector 27
Press club swimming pool is attracting a greater crowd this summer. Membership is not restricted to the club members. The pool is armed with three coaches and three lifeguards. The pool closes in October. Learners have to pay Rs 500 as coaching fee. Daily dip facility is also available at Rs 50.
Lake Sports complex,Sector 1
Formerly known as Lake Club,the complex has introduced new games. Membership is not available,however user-ship for the games is available. And swimming facility is provided as an addition to the users of the game. Users can bring along their guests. Users are charged Rs 500 a month for swimming while the users guest has to pay Rs 1,000 to avail this facility. There are two pools,one for kids and the other for adults.
Kendriya Vidalaya has increased the fee to Rs 1,100 as compared to Rs 800 last year. According to Sushila Kadian (proprietor,Rajeev Enterprices Sports Academy) The fee was increased to keep the indisciplined and rowdy elements at bay. This pool boasts a swimming-cardio and swimming-gym combo pack. Only KV-29 students avail a 25 percent off on the swimming fees. Here learners have to dole out Rs 600 as coaching fee.
Panjab University takes pride in having the only Olympic size pool in the region with a length of 50 meters. The university has three swimming pools. One for beginners,one for diving and the Olympic size for swimmers and athletes. According to coach Gurcharanjit Singh,Sports Authority of India (SAI) More girls are taking to swimming and are increasingly becoming health conscious, he said while adding that doctors recommended swimming to gain height as there is zero stress under water. Swimming horizontally ensures increased blood supply to all the organs while still water massages the body gently. Swimming is the only exercise that helps you develop all five motor abilities of the body simultaneously; speed,strength,endurance,flexibility and coordination.
It has around 900 members and operates on an hour shift basis. The students are charged a nominal fee of Rs 50 while the outsiders have to shell out Rs 1,000. Students of affiliated colleges,faculty and members of alumni relations can avail the facility at Rs 150 a month.
There are two swimming pools in Sector 23,one for men and the other for ladies and children. The mens pool is under renovation. The other swimming pool which is for ladies and kids is an all weather pool located at Yoga Health Center. It operates on an hour shift basis on alternate days. Besides maximum 150 people are given the membership,on first come first serve basis. Boys can also avail the facilities of the all weather pool during the winter season from November 31 to March 31.
