SUV looted at gun-point,4 held after encounter

Six goons stole an SUV Fortuner from a dhaba owner at gun-point on Chandigarh-Ambala National Highway in Lalru on Saturday. The police,however,encountered the culprits and arrested four of them,while two are on the run. The SUV too was recovered.

The accused have been booked under Section 392 of the IPC for the loot and Section 307 for firing at the police.

Anil Sharma,SP,Dera Bassi said,“The complainant Rampal,who is the owner of a dhaba situated on Chandigarh-Ambala National Highway,said six men in their mid-twenties came to his dhaba around 12:40 am on Saturday and ordered tea. After a few minutes,they started arguing with him and making false allegations. When Rampal refused to budge,they pointed a pistol towards him,snatched the SUV keys and fled away from the spot.”

The officer said,“As the owner informed the police,Gurdyal Singh,SHO,Lalru along with two constables arranged a naka near the Lalru police station on the national highway.”

“We saw an SUV coming and tried to stop it,but the SUV sped away from the naka. We chased them till Magna village,where the SUV got stuck in the mud and the six accused left the vehicle and started running towards fields,” he said.

He said,“There was crossfire among police and the accused. After chasing them for long,four of the accused were nabbed by the police and the SUV was recovered. Two accused managed to run away and the pistol is yet to recover.”

Mohali SSP GS Bhullar,SP Headquarters Darshan Singh Mann and SP Anil Sharma also visited the spot after the incident. Police disclosed that all the accused are from Sirsa,Haryana.
