In the report under the headline,Over 10,000 engineering seats under PTU still lying vacant (July 18),an unnamed counselling coordinator of Chandigarh Engineering College,Landran, was quoted as having said that students have chosen to migrate from Surya School of Engineering and Technology,Rajpura, because the infrastructure in that college was in a very poor state.
A spokesperson of the Surya School of Engineering and Technology, while categorically denying that any of their students had sought migration, has pointed out that the college has in fact one of the best infrastructure in the educational institutes north of Delhi.
Surya is a Rs 11 billion conglomerate and its company Surya World offers graduate courses in engineering in a state-of-art campus built over more than 60 acres. It has the latest infrastructure, including full air-conditioned interactive classrooms with smart boards for modular learning besides other facilities. Academicians from IITs and IIMs are on their visiting and guest faculty and it has provided students access to the best knowledge pool.
The spokesperson also pointed out that its reputation has enabled it to increase its intake from 460 students in its year of inception last year to over 1,800 this academic year. It has added another integrated campus this academic year following its success last year and was received enthusiastic response from parents and students from all over the country. Our subsequent enquires have revealed that the unnamed counselling coordinator of Chandigarh Engineering College had made an incorrect statement. The error is regretted.
