Chandigarh: Surinder Singh,qualified greassroot instructor and football coach at St Stephen’s Football Academy,will conduct the AIFF Grass Roots Football Programme Course being organised by Chandigarh Football Association,at St Stephens School,Sector 45,Chandigarh,from April 4 to 6. The course will be conducted daily from 2.30 to 5.00 pm and will include both theory as well as practical classes. This 3-day program will give a complete understanding about the philosophy planning,implementation and organisation of grassroot football. Sports teachers from government schools and private schools have been invited to attend the programme. Fifteen teachers from the government schools and 10 teachers from the private schools have confirmed their participation in the programme. This programme is for players between six to 11 years.
Punjab eves claim fencing title
Chandigarh: Punjab eves claimed the Epee team title in the 4th Fencing Federation Cup being held at Hyderabad from April 3 to 5. In the Epee team final,Punjab eves prevailed over Kerala,45-41,to claim the title. In the semi-finals,Punjab thrashed Tamil Nadu,45-19,while Kerala defeated Manipur,45-44,in a nail-biting encounter. Meanwhile,Haryana went down fighting to Jammu and Kashmir,40-45,in the semi-finals of men’s Foil team event. In the second semi-final,Manipur humbled Karnataka,45-17,in a lop-sided encounter.
Cricket trials on April 6
Chandigarh: Chandigarh Cricket Association,affiliated to Punjab Cricket Association,will organise trials on April 6 at 3 pm at Guru Nanak Public School,Sector 36,Chandigarh,for the selection of Under-19 team for the inter-district tournament starting from May 11. Players born on or after September 1,1994,are eligible to appear in the trials.
Athletics trials on April 7
Panchkula: The Haryana State Athletic Association will conduct selection-cum-competitions on April 7 at Athletics Ground,CRA College in Sonipat. The selected boys and girls will represent Haryana in the National Federation Cup National Senior Athletics Championship to be held at Delhi from April 23 to 26 and National Youth Athletics Championship to be held at Guntur from May 18 to 20,Interested athletes may contact to the concerned District Secretaries. The athletes should bring original date of birth certificate issued from the Education Board (Only certificate of 10th Class is valid)/Certificate issued from Municipal Committee/CMO. (The Open school certificate will not be entertained) The athletes should contact for the registration and competitions to Mr Vikash Kumar,athletics coach and Rajive Khatri (District secretary) CRA College ,Sonipat at the athletics Ground of CRA College,Sonipat at 8 AM.
