The UT Electricity Department will prepare a revised proposal for a hike in power tariff and submit it to the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) by October 30.
JERC has directed the Electricity Department to get a third party audit done. Based on that,a revised proposal has to be prepared.
In its order recently,JERC rejected the petition of the Electricity Department for an increase in the power tariff by 48 per cent. Rejecting the proposal,JERC had criticised the Electricity Department on various accounts, including the lack of proper auditing.
Superintending Engineer (Electricity) M P Singh said,JERC has asked us to get a third party audit done. Our auditing is done by the Auditor General office. We are now to get auditing done by a private agency from among those who are approved by the government. The petition has to be submitted by October 30.
However, the tariff may or may not increase in this financial year.
The department will be working out the modalities on how the audit is to be conducted on the parameters of JERC. Officials say that the parameters set by JERC and what they currently follow are different.
The Electricity Department,in its proposal, had stated that there was a gap of Rs 344 crore in the net revenue and the revenue generated.
