Two days after the car racing incident which took a bad turn, the offenders,Amiteshwar and Gurvir Mahal, both students of University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS),were challaned and let go. The police is waiting for someone to make a complaint following which an action can be taken against the two students.

Police officials said,“What can we do? We can only take an action if anyone gives a complaint. As for the complaint given by the security officers,a compromise was sought and the matter was solved”.

The security officers of the university had said that the complaint given to the police had all the details. “We had written all the events in the complaint. The two students had been racing when one lost control and subsequently the other did so as well. Following this, two cars were damaged, apart from those belonging to the duo and a motorcycle rider was injured,” the official said.

“Now it is up to the injured person to give a complaint and get a case registered against them both. We have nothing else to do,” added the official.

The police also awaits a complaint from Raj,an engineering student who had come to meet a friend in Panjab University and became a victim of the ‘racing competition’.

The Dean,Students’ Welfare (DSW),A S Ahluwalia had also said that the PU security has been asked to get all the documents with the Chandigarh Police so that the inquiry which is being carried out against both UILS students,Amiteshwar and Gurvir, can be carried out further and a decision can be taken.

The incident, which had taken place in the Panjab University on Wednesday, had rendered the two students involved in the alleged car race suspended by the PU authorities.
