With the PU student elections six days away, the college student unions are getting into election mode with a series of alliances being formed between different parties in a bid to get maximum votes.

Since the alliances have not been decided yet, most college parties are waiting to announce their respective panels.

At the Post Graduate Government College,Sector 11,where the election fever has not gripped students yet,NSUI is playing an active role by opting to alliance with the Panjab University Students Union (PUSU),the party which won the elections last year in alliance with Student’s Organisation of India (SOI).

This year, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in the college is forging an alliance with SOI and Indian National Students Organization (INSO),while SOPU has not yet decided if it will enter an alliance.

SOPU party president of Government College,Sector 11,Gurvinder Singh said,“The NSUI and PUSU alliance in the college will give our party heavy competition. Though we have not decided yet,we will have to form an alliance with some party to help us in the long term. After deciding the alliance,we will announce our panel.”

Meanwhile, the NSUI in the SGGS College Sector 26,has already formed an alliance with two other parties namely, the Hindustan Students Union (HSA) and the College Student Union (CSU). It may further extend the alliance to one more party in the college.

A NSUI member at the college said,“Talks are on to take to alliance with one more party but we have not decided yet. As soon we decide the party to make an alliance with, the panel will be announced.”

The PUSU at DAV College Sector 10,which won the elections last year in alliance with NSUI by around 303 votes, has planned to contest the elections without entering into any alliance this year. The NSUI at DAV college has, however, formed an alliance with SOPU this year.

PUSU party president at the college,Argaaz Sohna said,“We are sure of our win without getting into any alliance. Last year,we only got 70 votes in an alliance. But this year,we will have a very competitive panel.”
