Cricket bats were replaced with kitchen spatulas and the sticky wicket had much to do with the whipped cream that was used generously. This Tuesday saw the players of Punjab’s home team,Kings XI Punjab, try its hands at cake decoration with an equally enthusiastic team comprising underprivileged children from the Chandigarh-based NGO,Choti Si Asha. The event held at JW Marriott Chandigarh’s Italian fine-diner Oregano saw star players such as David Hussey,Dimitri Mascrarenhas,Azhar Mehmood,Bipul Sharma,Mandeep Singh come together to form five teams. Each team had children from the NGO as well, and they competed against each other to decorate their cake. Sportingly,Mehmood’s daughter also participated in the event that saw the cricketers in a jovial mood, slapping on cream, sprinkling the cake with green vermicelli, using chocolate strips for pitches. The interaction saw a winner, too, with Hussey’s team scoring brownie points for the best decorated cake. His team also had KXIP players Bhargav Bhatt and Mascrarenhas as well as Shakti,Sumit and Anjali from the NGO. Post the event, the 16 children were taken around the hotel and educated about different career opportunities within the hotel industry.
