BJP councillors on Thursday met the Municipal Commissioner to urge him to increase security during General House meetings. They alleged that during the last meeting,bottles were hurled at them from the visitors gallery.
The meeting of the House held on May 24 witnessed much ruckus,with councillors of the Congress and BJP-SAD entering into a scuffle.
Several councillors sustained injuries,following which police complaints were filed. It was also alleged that bottles were thrown at the councillors when the meeting was over and BJP-SAD councillors were protesting in the Assembly.
The councillors demanded that security arrangements should be in place to prevent such incidents in future. It was demanded that every visitor entering the visitors gallery to see the proceedings be issued an entry pass. As per rules,one entry pass is permitted per councillor. BJP councillors alleged that a lot of people enter from the Mayors room without passes.
A few days back,Mayor Subhash Chawla had met the UT Advisor asking him to appoint an observer to ensure the smooth conduct of the House meetings in future.
