State to provide free coaching to SC/OBCs

The Punjab government on Friday launched a drive to impart free tuitions to students belonging to Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes for competitive examinations with the aim of making coaching accessible to underprivileged students.

The Punjab government on Friday launched a drive to impart free tuitions to students belonging to Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes for competitive examinations with the aim of making coaching accessible to underprivileged students.

An official spokesman of the Scheduled Castes/ backward Classes (SC/BC) Welfare Department said that free coaching will be given to the students for bank exams in the first phase of the drive. Tuitions for the entrance exam for Probationary Officers in banks and Assistant Administrative Officers (AAOs) in the Life Insurance Corporation of India and the General Insurance Corporation of India will commence from July 16 at Punjab Government’s Ambedkar Institute of Career and Courses.

SC/BC candidates who belong to Punjab are eligible to apply for this. Candidates having an annual income of less than Rs 2 lakh can also apply. The application deadline is July 2. Out of a total of 40 seats,70 per cent of the seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes,whereas the remaining 30 per cent seats will be given to students from Backward Classes.
