There’s no missing the point that the Indian Premier League (IPL) isn’t just about cricket. There’s also song, dance and entertainment. On April 6 as Chandigarh’s home team Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) pads up to take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their first match of IPL Season 5,they will have to face opponent Sreesanth’s new attack. The fast bowler,a new addition to the RR camp,is all set to bounce popular Bollywood numbers with his band S26 before the start of play at the Sawai Mansingh stadium.

S36 is a rock band that plays all kinds of music — from classical to hip-hop. “We will play music according to our fans’ choice. The band is not our band,it is a spectators’ band,” says Sreesanth, who formed the band with his brother-in-law and close friends in 2010.

The name of the band is a combination of the first letter of Sreesanth’s name and his lucky jersey number.

As part of the pre-game concert on April 6,the band will play a new version of Halla Bol,Rajasthan Royals’ official team anthem, and other numbers for an hour before they take on KXIP. “We have played with the original song’s music and lyrics a bit,it’s now a rock version of the original song with a few additional lines. It is not the official version but if people like it,we may make an album out of it,” says Sreesanth, who pitches in on the drums and even composes for his band.

Terming music as “therapeutic” during IPL stress, the bowler says,“It’s a stress-buster. I’m not just saying this as I am a part of the band but,as a player,I have seen all players listening to music during matches in the pavilion. With IPL being such a great collaboration between sports and entertainment, and our schedules being so hectic, music is the perfect therapy,” sums up the singer-cricketer.

On their part, the team of Kings XI Punjab is planning their own “specials” for the pre-game concert. “All teams add their own elements to the concert when playing on home grounds,” informs a KXIP representative. For the matches to be held at PCA stadium,Mohali,KXIP will bring in popular Punjabi singers and dhol players.
