According to the SSP Mohali,Gurpreet Singh Bhullar,Mohan Lal was arrested after he surrendered at Apsara palace in Zirakpur.

A 23-year-old woman Loveleen Kaur from Gurdaspur had jumped to death from a sixth-floor flat in Rishi Apartments owned by Mohan Lal on May 18. Inquest proceedings were started by the police on the complaint of the victim’s maternal uncle Balwinder Singh.

Mohan Lal,50 years of age,was posted at Batala as SP Headquarters when Loveleen committed suicide. He was later transferred to the crime branch at the Punjab Police headquarters in Chandigarh.

The victim’s father Lakhwinder Singh,a head constable working under Mohan Lal at Batala came out in the open about Mohan Lal’s role in his daughter’s death two days back following which the police registered a case against Mohan Lal.

In his complaint Lakhvinder Singh said he was under pressure not to take Mohan Lal’s name. He alleged that his daughter was illegally confined and raped by Mohan Lal on the pretext of getting her a job with Punjab Police.
