DJ,producer and creator of the world-famous “So,Happy in Paris?” parties,Michael Canitrot made a flying visit to Delhi

Imagine creating background music for celebrities such as Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp to walk down the red carpet to. Or composing for a catwalk that has Kate Moss or Heidi Klum sauntering down the ramp. Sounds like the stuff dreams are made up of? For 28-year-old Michael Canitrot,it’s just all in a day’s work. The famous DJ,flew down to the Capital to play his first ever gig in the country on Friday.

The DJ and music producer – or music designer as he prefers to be known as — has been creating waves in the worlds of fashion, films and parties for the past decade or so. Interestingly enough,Canitrot started his career when he was 10. He says,“I have always been fascinated by music,so much so that I started DJing at the age of 10,using two ghetto blasters without a mixer! But my first break in the electronic music came in 1997 when I performed with Daft Punk and then,in 2000,when I had my first gig at Les Bains Douches (a famous Parisian club).”

It was in the same year that Canitrot had his first brush with success, when he conceptualised and threw his first party titled “So,happy in Paris?” The party became a smash hit, growing from one event into a 100 shows a year, held all over the world. Canitrot says,“It is the epitome of Parisian glamour and a global experience where I love to combine DJs,musicians and visual performances to create atmosphere. A lot of people from fashion and cinema like to spend time listening to great music. Most notably, the 10th anniversary party last year was the first-ever club night to be held at Eiffel Tower. It was magical.”

Apart from creating a legacy of partying,Canitrot also has the distinction of being the official DJ for the Cannes International Films Festival since 2003. And while he’s played musician to many of the entertainment industry’s biggest names, the memory he treasures most was playing with U2 at the Cannes Red Carpet some years ago.

The Cannes connection helped Canitrot enter the fashion industry as he started designing music for shows and after-parties. Canitrot says,“The needs of each designer are different and the musical research I have to do alongside,is always very enriching. I remember a musical theme we developed on Christian Dior’s life, his tastes, and his influences, which was an incredible project.”
