The members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to curb illegal business of immigration/emigration in the city were honoured by UT Inspector General of Police P K Shrivastava on Wednesday.
The SIT,which was formed in the month of September last year,has arrested 110 persons till now in cases related to visa frauds and fake documents.
All the 42 members of the SIT were given Class-I commendation certificate along with a cash reward of Rs 5,000 at a function held at Police Lines,Sector 26. All the senior officers of the police were present at the function.
The SIT arrested 34,36 and 16 persons for student,tourist and works visa fraud respectively. Recently,the SIT also busted three gangs involved in preparing and providing fake university degrees,experience certificates,property returns and bank statements. Twenty-four persons were arrested in this regard.
