Two persons accused in the attack on Suresh Kumar Sharma and his daughter Shweta Sharma which took place in Sector 50 in broad daylight on Tuesday are still absconding.

At about 2.30 pm,Nishi Sharma, wife of 60-year-old Suresh, received a call from her 30-year-old daughter Shweta saying that someone was killing her and her father. In a panicked state,Nishi gave a call to her neighbors to help her family.

Talking to Newsline,Nishi said,“My daughter was brave when she managed to call me while Pankaj was trying to cut her wrist and kill her. Both my daughter and my husband have been so brutally attacked that I do not want to think what could have happened if Shweta had not called”.

Nishi added,“Shweta later told me that she pretended to be dead so that her assailants would spare her. She has been crying since she gained consciousness that she was not able to take care of her father”.

Shweta was operated upon at Fortis Hospital. She also underwent cosmetic surgery for regeneration of her ear lobe which was cut off by Pankaj and his accomplice.

“We have recorded statements of Shweta today but the actual motive of the attack will only be clear after Suresh is able to give a statement. Shweta was in the other room and came out only after she heard a commotion and saw her father stabbed in his face,” said DSP South,Surjit Singh Malik.

He also added that police teams are searching at all the possible locations in Mohali,Ludhiana and Jalandhar.

Nishi said,“We had contacted Pankaj after we saw an advertisement. He claimed to be a property dealer and we were planning to sell our flat and buy a bungalow in the outskirts of the city.”
