After the success of her debut novel I Promise,Chandigarh-born,Mumbai-based author Tahira Kashyap is out with her new book,Souled Out (Cedar Books,Rs 175). A collection of short stories,Kashyap says that unlike her first book, this one took all of a month to complete. I surprised myself when I got down to writing,it came in a flow, says Kashyap, who was in the city to formally launch the book at Café Books and Brew in Sector 16 on Monday afternoon. Chandigarh,a city shes gown up in,features in her stories and the sounding board for the stories was her husband, actor Ayushmann Khurana. Incidentally,Ayushmann likes reading non-fiction while I prefer fiction. I would narrate my stories to him and he would steer me on, quips Kashyap, who is also a professor of mass communication in Mumbai. The common thread of emotions, along with various twists and turns, binds the ten stories together that have been illustrated with photographs by photographer Vineet Modi. Each story unfolds in an unexpected way, which would take the readers by surprise and yet be able to strike a chord somewhere with its theme, says Kashyap. For someone who reads every script that is offered to Auyshmann, she is now contemplating penning down a film. Back in college,Ayushmann and I were part of a theatre group and I did pen the screenplays for our productions. So I think writing the screenplay of a film would be the next logical step, sums up Kashyap.
