Chandigarh:Ravi Parmar of local DAV College prevailed over Gurmej Singh and Amit,both of Sri Gobind Singh College,Chandigarh,in the men’s section of the Panjab University Inter-College Cross Country Championship held in Chandigarh on Saturday. Ravi Parmar clocked 42:35.15 seconds while Gurmej Singh took 42:42.28 seconds for the silver medal. Amit clocked 42:47.49s for third position. SGGS College bagged the team championship with 42 points. DAV College,Chandigarh,J.C.D. D.A.V. College,Dasuya and G.K.S.M. Govt. College Tanda Urmar secured second,third and fourth positions with 70,134 and 156 points respectively. Meanwhile,Harpreet Kaur of GTB Khalsa College,Dasuya,bagged top honours in the women’s category as she clocked 18:09.34s for the individual title. Daljit Kaur of Dasmesh Girls College,Mukerian won silver with a timing of 18:28.98s. Amandeep Kaur from Khasla College for Women,Ludhiana earned bronze with 18:52.71s.Guru Nanak Girls College,Ludhiana won the team trophy with 38 points.

Amitoj sails into next round

Chandigarh:Amitoj Singh was among those players who won their respective boy’s Under-14 singles qualifying matches of the CLTA AITA Championship Series tennis tournament held at the CLTA Stadium on Saturday. Amitoj stepped on the court at around 3 pm as the qualifying round matches were earlier postponed in the morning due to rainfall. However,the weather hardly made any difference on Amitoj’s game as he breezed past Arman Singh 8-2.

Goyal sisters share joint lead

Chandigarh:Goyal sisters,Arunima and Tarini,were among the five players sharing the joint lead with three points each at the end of the third round in the Chandigarh Under-15 Open and Girls chess championship,that started at St Xavier’s School,Sector 44,on Saturday. The other players are Amartya Bhattcharjee,Jaskeerat Singh and Anibhav Tuknayat. Archit Gupta were breathing down their neck with two and a half points while Akash Bhardwaj,Akshit Khunger,Prateek Wadhwa,Kaushal Tanya,Akul Blehria,Aniket Sharma,Ishaan Singh,Manish Manda,Yash Raj Kapoor,Kashish Kaushal,Aditya Bedi,Anchit,Arshjot,Aryan Oswal and Pratyaskhs Goel scored two points each. After the championship,four players in each category would be selected to represent Chandigarh in the Nationals to be held at Maharashtra from September 16 to 25.

Motorsport event on September 9

Chandigarh:Team Chandigarh Adventure Sports will organise Speed Sprint,a motorsport event,in Chandigarh on September 9. The event will begin at 8 am and will end in the evening. Speed lovers from the Tricity can take part in the event riding on mobike,car/SUV or four-wheeler vehicles prepared specially for rallying. The event would be held in three categories- Speed Sprint Cross (for all types and makes of four-wheeler),Speed Sprint Zap (open only to four wheeler prepared as per FMSCI regulations) and Speed Sprint Moto (open for two wheelers). There is also an all women’s category,and another for novices. There would be a maximum of 40 entries in Speed Sprint Moto,70 in Speed Sprint Cross,and 50 in Speed Sprint Zap.
