Shimla and its adjoining areas received a second spell of snow on Thursday evening,bringing cheer to the faces of tourists.

Shimla and its adjoining areas received a second spell of snow on Thursday evening,bringing cheer to the faces of tourists.

Famous tourist destinations of Manali,Solong Nullah ski slopes in the foothills of Rohtang Pass,Dalhousie and Khajjiar also experienced moderate to heavy snowfall.

“The higher reaches in Kinnaur,Lahaul and Spiti,Kullu,Shimla and Chamba districts have witnessed moderate to heavy snowfall during the past 24 hours (since Wednesday). Such conditions will continue till Saturday,” the weatherman said.

As soon as the snow started falling,tourists staying in Shimla hotels came out on the Mall Road and the Ridge.

“Seeing snowfall is a lifetime experience,” said Dalip Kumar and his wife,who are from Mumbai.

Shimla recorded night temperature of 2.6 degrees Celsius while it was minus 2.6 in Kalpa of Kinnaur district and 4.5 degrees in Dharamsala.

Kufri and nearby spots,including Naldehra and Narkanda,also experienced a lot of snow during the day and on Wednesday evening.

Balbir Thakur,Manali Sub-divisional Magistrate,said,“Manali town witnessed four to five inches of snow while other tourist spots,including Solong Nullah,are deep in snow. This is going to be a boost to the tourism industry.”

He said the tourists were not allowed to venture towards Gulaba or other places after Wednesday evening’s experience when many of them were left stranded. “All were rescued by the local teams,” he added.
