SD School bag overall men’s trophy

SD Public School,Sector 32 bagged the overall trophy in the boys' category with 24 points on the concluding day of 36th Chandigarh Senior State Men's Boxing championship at SD Public School,Sector 32.

SD Public School,Sector 32 bagged the overall trophy in the boys’ category with 24 points on the concluding day of 36th Chandigarh Senior State Men’s Boxing championship at SD Public School,Sector 32. SGGS College,Sector 26 claimed the overall trophy in the women’s category with 12 points.

It was an easy win for Naveen of SD Public School in the 52 Kg category as he scored a win based on points over Vijay of Boxing Coaching Centre,Sector 42. Surinder added yet another gold medal in SD Public School’s kitty as he scored a win based on points over Manoj of SD Club in the 56 Kg category.

In the 49 Kg category,Sumit of SGGS College,Sector 26 emerged as the winner with a knock-out win over Satnam of Boxing Coaching Centre,Sector 42 while Naresh of SD Club scored a win based on points over Parveen of SGGS College,Sector 26.

In the 69 Kg category,Neeraj of CP claimed the gold medal with a win over Rohit of DAV College,Sector 10 while Jashpreet of CP emerged as the winner in the 75 Kg category with a win over Kailash of SD Club. It was easy going for Visvjeet of Panjab University as he ended the challenge of Naveen of SD Public School,Sector 32 in the 81 Kg category.

60 Kg final sees controversy

Meanwhile,the final bout in the 60 Kg category saw some controversy when experienced Shubham Gulati of SGGS-26 lost to Ashish of SD School,Sector 32. Gulati,who had defeated Ashish in Inter-College Tournament,lost 0-3 in the bout and his coach Jai Hind protested the decision. “It was a clear win for Shubham but the officials ruled in the favour of Ashish. Shubham deserved to win and and we will protest the decision,” said Hind.

CABA president Dr CK Jerath said Shubham wil be given a chance to appear in the trials for the National Senior Championship. “We will give Shubham a chance to appear in the trials. He is a very good boxer and we will see what happens on October 25 in the trials,” said Jerath.
